The Maplewood Care Foundation supports organizations whose work aligns with our mission and approach to impact. Our grantmaking emphasizes thoughtful, responsible investment that strengthens community capacity and advances work with lasting value.
This page outlines our funding priorities, eligibility considerations, and what to expect throughout the application process. Organizations are encouraged to review this information carefully to assess alignment with the Foundation’s grantmaking approach.
Current funding status - closed
Thank you for your interest. Spring grant applications are now closed. We will be reviewing applications over the next 6 weeks and hope to notify applicants of their status by the end of June 2026.
Where Our Funding is Directed
The Maplewood Care Foundation’s grantmaking supports work that aligns with our mission and long-term approach to impact. Funding has been directed to the following areas, with shared expectations around eligibility and costs outlined below.
1. Community-Based Programs
We provide funding to community-based organizations whose work addresses social isolation and loneliness among older adults in Abbotsford and the Eastern Fraser Valley, with the goal of strengthening connection, belonging, and quality of life.
2. Research
We support community-engaged, applied research that contributes to improved understanding, practice, or policy related to aging and the quality of life of older adults, and that aligns with the Foundation’s mission, vision, and values. Research funding is intended to support learning that can be applied and shared over time, rather than stand-alone or purely theoretical inquiry.
3. Capacity and Accessibility (currently paused)
In the past, the Foundation has provided limited funding to support capacity and accessibility improvements within community organizations. This has included one-time investments such as accessibility upgrades, equipment, or infrastructure improvements. Through this work, the Foundation learned that this type of funding requires clearer criteria and a more tailored application process. As a result, this funding stream is currently paused while the Foundation reflects on how best to support capacity and accessibility in a way that is fair, effective, and aligned with its approach.

Eligible and Ineligible Costs
We strongly encourage all applicants to review our Eligible and Ineligible Costs Sheet which may be downloaded here.
- Generally eligible costs may include:
- Direct project or program costs
- Staff time directly related to the funded work
- Evaluation, research, or knowledge mobilization activities
- Reasonable administrative costs directly connected to the project
- Generally ineligible costs include:
- Core operating deficits
- Capital campaigns or major capital expenditures
- Fundraising activities
- Costs already fully funded by another source
What We Look for in Funding Requests
When reviewing funding requests, the Foundation looks first for alignment with our mission and approach to impact. We are most interested in proposals that clearly reflect our focus on quality of life for older adults, demonstrate partnerships, and are grounded in shared values.
We also look for a clear and compelling articulation of the need or gap the proposed work is intended to address. Strong applications help us understand the community context, why this work matters now, and how the Foundation’s support would meaningfully contribute.
For research proposals, this includes evidence of community-engaged approaches and a clear connection between the proposed work and direct benefit or relevance to older adults, including how learning will inform practice, care, or future action.
Who is Eligible to Apply
The Maplewood Care Foundation provides grant funding to registered nonprofit charitable organizations whose work aligns with our mission and funding priorities.
The Foundation does not fund healthcare services. This includes funding for the delivery of medical or clinical care that is publicly funded or provided through healthcare systems.
