Defining Impact with Intention
At Maplewood Care Foundation, impact is understood as making thoughtful decisions that stand up over time.
We don’t measure impact by volume or speed. Instead, we pay attention to whether people are supported to live with dignity and connection, whether care systems are being strengthened, and whether organizations and relationships are building capacity that endures.
This means investing in work that is responsive, responsible, and rooted in real community needs. We fund with care, learn continuously, and remain accountable to the communities our work is intended to support—recognizing that meaningful impact is built steadily and sustained over time.
Impact Through Maplewood Care Society
Maplewood Care Society is the organization from which the Foundation emerged and remains the Foundation’s primary priority. Its work reflects a deep, long-standing commitment to care, dignity, and quality of life for older adults across Abbotsford and the Eastern Fraser Valley.
Through sustained support of the Society, the Foundation contributes to work that includes quality of life and quality improvement programs, and initiatives that strengthen care and connection for older adults. This support reflects alignment in purpose and values, and a shared commitment to thoughtful, accountable care over time.
While the Society leads this work, the Foundation’s role is to provide stable, long-term support that helps strengthen organizational capacity, advance quality improvement, and enable innovations that respond to evolving needs.
How We Contribute to Impact
Community-Based Organizations
Through our grantmaking, we support community-based organizations whose work strengthens dignity, connection, and quality of life for older adults. Priority is given to initiatives that address social isolation and loneliness, respond to demonstrated needs, and build on the strengths already present within the community.
Our focus is on meaningful improvements in daily life and the sustained strength of the organizations that make that work possible.
Community-Engaged Research
We steward resources with care, investing in work that demonstrates alignment, clarity of purpose, and long-term value. Funding decisions are guided by defined criteria, thoughtful assessment, and accountability to the communities we serve.
Enduring impact reflects disciplined investment and a commitment to strengthening quality of life as people age.
Connection and Collaboration
We support initiatives that foster coordination, shared learning, and thoughtful collaboration among organizations serving older adults. By reinforcing connections and shared approaches, our funding contributes to a nonprofit sector that is better equipped to respond to evolving needs.
Capacity built through connection extends beyond individual grants and strengthens the broader ecosystem.
